A day out in the snow - following the Olympic Vision of 2010

Duration: 10 hours

Activity Level: moderate - You will spend a lot of time outside for snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing. These activities are optional and you can enjoy the day without physical activities as well.

Join us for a spectacular day out in the snow! Way Out West Tours take you out on a winter adventure one-day tour to the 2010 Winter Olympics Resort town of Whistler. Our experienced guide will lead the way. This is the winter adventure that you had in mind when coming to Vancouver. You will likely create unforgettable memories and feel well accomplished and relaxed in the evening. Don't miss out on this day out in the snow!

The Sea-to-Sky Highway

This tour begins with a ride along the spectacular Sea-to-Sky Highway. Our guide will welcome you at Canada Place in Vancouver. Together with a small group you will travel in a minibus or van. After crossing the monumental Lions Gate Bridge, the route follows the Pacific ocean along the Howe Sound fjord and then climbs up 700 m to Whistler. Our tour guide tells you all about the 2010 Winter Olympics and shows you around the mountain resort town of Whistler. Depending on weather conditions, the guide will stop for scenic spots.

Whistler, BC

You spend 3 hours in Whistler Village, exploring the bustling winter resort town. Whistler village is mostly free of cars and allows you to freely roam around. You can easily find great breakfast places, visit the Olympic Plaza, learn about Whistlers Olympic legacy in the Whistler Museum or visit the Squamish and Lil’wat cultural center and learn about the First Nations who have called these lands home since time immemorial.

Whistler Olympic Park Activities
In the afternoon we visit the original 2010 Winter Olympics Park. Get active in the snow!
Our group spends 2.5 hours in this winter wonderland outside of Whistler. Well maintained trails through beautiful forests invite you to create memories.
You can chose between the following activities. Admission and ski/snowshoe rentals are included:

  • Snowshoeing: Explore the trails the Canadian Way - together with your guide.

  • Cross-country Skiing: Get in the boots and glide through the snow! Some skiing experience helps, but beginners can manage. This activity will be on your own.

  • Sightseeing: Enjoy the mountain views, admire First Nations arts and Get your selfie with the original Olympic Rings.

  • Bi-Athlon Shooting range - beginners session lesson available, not included in tour price.

  • Base Lodge / Cafe: Warm up with hot chocolate and get your energy back with soups, sandwiches and smoothies. Relax at the fireplace and watch the scene.

Itinerary of the Whistler Olympic Dream - A Day in the Snow Tour
1. 9:00 am: Meet your tour guide/driver and start the tour. Leave downtown by crossing the iconic Lions Gate bridge.
2. Drive along the Sea-to-Sky Highway (Highway 99) along the Howe Sound fjord and uphill towards Whistler.
3. 11:00 am: Join your guide on a walking tour through Whistler Village and then explore Whistler on your own.
4. Optional: visit The Whistler Museum, The Audain Art Museum or the Squamish and Lil’wat Cultural Center.
5. 2 pm: Transport from Whistler to the Whistler Olympic Park
6. 2:30 pm: Retrieve rental gear (Cross-country skis or snowshoes) and explore on our own the well maintained 55 km ski trail and 15 km snowshoe trail network. Go on own or join your guide on a snowshoe trail.
7. Optional activity: Bi-Athlon shooting session
8. Free time to explore the park's famous forested trails, natural creeks and waterfalls, relax at the day lodge cafe or check out the historic Olympic sites.
9. 5:15 pm: Return transport back to Downtown Vancouver. Stop for scenic outlooks if weather permits. Scheduled arrival is 7:15 pm.

Preparation notes
+ You will spend time in the snow. Please dress according to the weather forecast for Whistler, BC. Dress in comfortable, light and breathable synthetic or wool layers. Bring gloves/mittens, a toque, and think of rain and or protection.
+ Water proof shoes are required for Snowshoeing. Overboots for added waterproofing are available for a small fee.

Location: Canada Place Welcome Centre

Our guide will arrive about 5 minutes prior to departure in a white van or mini-coach with a "Way Out West" logo.
